This is Why You Should Make Sure You Want to Have Kids

When young people (in their 20's) ask me what it's like to have kids...and I can tell they are digging for the "negatives"....I try to convey the most important information on that front...which is that you never...ever...have time for yourself. This is not a bad thing. Spending almost all of your free time dedicated to the cultivation of another human being during stages of that life that are foundational is about the most meaningful thing a person can do.

However, being unreasonably hungover AND cultivating a human being through their foundational stage of life is untenable at best. So when you are about to pull the trigger on that decision...just make sure you ask yourself the following question....are you willing to get into the soft gooey center of a DEFCON 5 level hangover...of the variety that requires at least 10 - 20 hours of full bat-cave, cone-of-silence recovery time and face this...

Let me clear. I love my kids. And the introduction of my kids into my life was the best thing that ever happened to me. I cherish every moment I have with them but I was ready to live with every (sometimes harsh) reality posed by parenthood. And if you want to have kids (and be prepared for it)...you should too.
